I recently collaborated with Branch, a leading workforce payments platform to undertake a brand refresh. Known for its speed, flexibility, and innovation, Branch is revolutionizing payment solutions for businesses and enables them to attract and retain talent while empowering individuals with instant access to their earnings. As part of this project my team and I created a refreshed brand identity and design tool kit to help bring clarity and consistency to Branch internal and external communications and help them stand out in a crowded payments marketplace.
The Branch brand identity was completely revamped, with a new website design, app look/feel, color palette, icon system, typography, photography library and brand voice. The goal was retain a clean and modern look that reflects the cutting-edge technology and innovative features that Branch offers its customers — but infuse it with humanity which the old brand standards had been missing. The result is a brand identity that now unleashes the emotional power of Branch, forging lasting connections that transcend transactions.
Client Overview:
Rising Tide Brewing Co., a family-owned brewery in Portland, Maine, has been crafting innovative beers since 2010. As they approached their 15th anniversary, they recognized the need to refresh their brand to infuse new energy and excitement into its image and tap into their community focussed spirit while appealing to a broader audience, including younger demographics.
Challenge:
Rising Tide's original logo and packaging no longer fully represented the brand's dynamism. The brewery needed a refresh that would modernize their identity, reflect their coastal inspiration, stand out in a competitive market, and create a cohesive look across all branding materials.
Objectives:
The goal was to update the logo to align with their "Rising Tide lifts all boats" philosophy, design coastal-inspired can packaging, and create a visual identity that resonates with both loyal customers and new craft beer enthusiasts. The refreshed brand needed to be adaptable across merchandise, digital platforms, and promotional materials.
Approach:
Through interviews with the founders Nathan and Heather Sanborn, research into community input, and competitor analysis, I developed a new brand identity. The logo was modernized with clean lines and nautical elements, while the packaging featured minimalist designs inspired by Maine’s coast. A consistent color palette and clear differentiation between beer varieties ensured the new packaging stood out on shelves.
Results:
The refreshed brand increased recognition and excitement among both new and long-time customers abd successfully captured the brewery’s evolution while staying true to its core values.

This is a branding project I’m particularly proud of. My younger brother August came to me looking to establish an identity for his new butcher shop. Collaboratively, we settled on the name Riverside Butcher Company, drawing inspiration from the shop’s location along the Damariscotta River. Fun fact: the prior tenant of the building for the last 40 years was a leathersmith (I still wear the belt that my dad gifted to me on my 16th birthday from Narragansett Leathers). Conveying QUALITY was definitely an important attribute for this new business. Also — I think it’s rather serendipitous that August set up shop in the same space that already had a history with cows .
For this project, I developed a comprehensive branding package, including a flexible logo system, eye-catching signage, hardworking print collateral, thoughtful apparel design, and a straightforward website to help launch his business successfully. The highlight of the project occurred when a customer from Iowa complimented the shop’s sign and inquired about the font used. To our surprise, it turned out to be John Downer (see last photo), the typographer behind the beautiful hand-lettered inspired type called “Brothers”.
